A Pleated Skirt + Graphic Tee

I’ve been wanting a pleated midi skirt for a minute now, so I was excited when I came across this one from clothing label, Jessture. Style Star of the Week: Jeffrey Calant

Name: Jeffrey Calant 24 Belgium Bachelor in Photography, currently working for the denim brand Diesel I don’t think I can give my style a name… I wear a different style every day, it depends on how I wake up and what I would like to wear that day. One day can be super casual, the other day I am all dressed up. I like too many things. I follow a lot of famous people and influencers on instagram and get a lot of ideas from there. One of my favorite people on instagram is @kosta_williams because he also mixes a lot of styles.  If I had to wear one outfit for a month straight I’d wear my long camel coat, a shirt, fun jeans and white sneakers. It would be an outfit that is comfy but can look really clean at the same time. As I work for Diesel, I was looking at their latest campaign pictures and liked them a lot. Curious to know who shot it, I took to the internet. All I found of the photographer were a lot of scandals… I …

Happiness is a Choice + 5 More Lessons I Learned While Living in New York City

I am back home in Ohio now, after living in New York City for a 4 month internship at a fashion PR company [Read More About It Here]. When I left home, I was ready. I felt confident, and was eager to start a journey being completely independent and “free,” while also taking the next step in my career. Little did I know this experience was about to be the best and most difficult thing I’ve endured yet. I figured I’d do a little recap and share with you the lessons I learned while living in New York. Lesson 1 | Your True Friends Aren’t Always Going to Be The First People You Meet  One of my goals coming into this city was to make an effort to make friends. As an introvert, this isn’t the easiest of tasks for me. That’s why after a week of living in my all girls-dorm-style-apartment, I was elated to meet a group of women who accepted me into their circle. From that point on we ate every meal together, and …

Head Wraps + Hijabs

When E-Shakti asked me to review another item of clothing, I selected this top. While I am not a huge fan of red, I couldn’t help but fall in love with that criss-cross neckline, the length, and cut of this piece. The sleeves with a thumb hole detail are also a plus in this cold weather. I wanted to pair the bold red with my headscarf that has a similar color in it, but to keep it from looking too matchy-matchy, I broke it up with a baby pink bomber. During my internship in NYC I met fellow intern, Maria Alia. I found out she is a fashion blogger as well, and we agreed to get together and take photos of one another. Here’s us together. What you don’t see if the camera awkwardly placed on a USPS Postal Mail Box. What I love most about this look are these glasses from Aspire Eyewear. They pull everything together and give me a quirky edge that I try to aim for in most of my outfits. …

Kira is a Youth Development Specialist for a Non profit organization. Both are the bloggers behind Knits Over Coffee. How would you describe your style? Kashera: My style definitely varies depending on how I feel that day. Sometimes I’m super girly, sometimes I play with edgy pieces. Either way, you will always catch me looking very modern with clean lines.  I’m a perfectionist and it shows through my outfits. Kira: I am for the most part always in timeless, feminine, girly attire. I love lace, frills and flares and firmly believe I should’ve been born in the 70’s because I am obsessed with big hair and bell bottoms. We get the most inspiration from street style. We love paying close attention to what people are wearing when visiting different cities and incorporating the different styles into our wardrobes. If you were given $150 to shop, would you spend …

These Are the Black Fashion Stylists You Should Know About

Fashion styling is something I knew I wanted to do as a career since I was 13 years old. Ever since then, I’ve made decisions (starting this blog, going to fashion design school, styling my friends, creating my own company, interning, etc.) to set me up for success in this industry. Since I’ve been living in New York City, and working at a PR firm, I see stylists come in the showroom to pull several times a week. I’m also the one who gets cc-ed on their emails with the account executives and am asked to pull the looks they requested to pack and send to them for use. When I come across an African American stylist, I feel joyous seeing someone who looks like me doing exactly what I want to be doing. So this post is for those of you who need that encouragement. Obviously you don’t have to be black to enjoy this. If you want to be a stylist, or are even remotely interested in fashion, this will be a great …

Style Star of the Week: Alli Robben

When I came across Alli’s profile on Instagram I was pleasantly surprised to learn we both live in Cincinnati! After talking with her it became evident she’s such a sweet girl. Read on to see how she feels about wearing white after labor day, the outfit she could wear over and over again, and how she got insta-famous.  Allí Robben Age 22 Cincinnati, OH Sales Associate at Nordstrom My style is very minimalistic and neutral, but with an edgy twist. The blogger @WeWoreWhat is my #1 go-to when it comes to street style inspiration. I feel like we have very similar styles when it comes to fashion. She wears more designer than I ever could at this moment in time, but she keeps me dreaming. If I had to wear one outfit for a month straight…Realistically I would wear my pajamas, but to better answer this question I would say my black high waisted skinny jeans, a grey t-shirt, and a leather jacket. This outfit is always my go-to. I love my high waisted denim …

I Love a Good Print

I found this shirt at a thrift store a while ago. It has become a wild card in my wardrobe. You know: those pieces that you put on every now and then when you want to make a statement and shake things up. In the past I’ve worn it in a way that you could only see a peek of the print, but this time I wanted to wear it full force– in all its glory! As you already know from the last outfit post I wrote, I am always in my adidas track pants. So this shouldn’t be a surprise. The shirt is so loose and comfortable, that I wanted to keep the whole look that way. I am a sucker for a good contradiction though… so I couldn’t let myself get too comfy. My choice to wear this wide brim hat versus a baseball cap, keeps the look stylish. I think my makeup and jewelry do the same thing. It keeps me from looking like I am just wearing Pajamas.
