Want to Step Up Your Beauty Game? You’ve Got to Try This!

Waking up in the morning has gotten a lot more interesting for me these past few days. Instead of going through my normal routine of wearing Clean + Clear facial moisturizer and store brand body lotion, I get to treat myself to Ylang Ylang and Lime facial scrub,  a soothing facial nourishing cream with organic calendula in it, and a choice of 10 different luxurious body butters. GLOW for a Cause is a beauty brand featuring these things as well as perfumes, soy candles, and lip balms. Each product is made from the purest, highest quality ingredients available. The best part? Every time you buy a GLOW for a cause product, you are not only pampering yourself, you are giving back 5% to their partner non-profit organizations.  I had the chance to test out these products for myself. For $24 you can get a cute makeup bag filled with 14 samples. When I tell you your nose will appreciate the various scents, I am not lying! Its unreal. Take a look at the video I made above reviewing …

Nail Looks from the Runway to Try Now

In need of a little nail inspiration? Check out some of my favorite spring looks from this year’s runway shows that are easy to do at home. Matte Crimson Try this twist on the classic nail staple by adding a matte coat to your favorite red polish. The modern addition definitely prevents it from going retro. Pearlized Nude Perfect for anyone who wants the fun of nail polish without the worry of a lot of upkeep, this sheer shade is an enhancement to your nails. The futuristic look of this color is cool, but not too far from your bare nail and will hide wear and tear. Only apply one coat to achieve this low-key look Big Bird Yellow Bring a little happy to your hands with some optimistic yellow. If you tend to wear a lot of neutrals this can be a great pop color that can really make your outfit say SPRING. Taupe If you can’t bear to step away from your favorite mannequin nails, make a subtle change by trying taupe. The slightly …

F/W ’16 Runway Makeup Looks to Try Now

Check out some of my favorite makeup looks, with my drugstore makeup picks, from the Fall/Winter shows that you can start wearing now! Let me know your favorite looks, or any looks I missed, in the comments. Rodarte This look from Rodarte is all about the lips. While the dark color may look intimidating at first glance, with a little lipliner it could become your go-to. Not to mention this shade is flattering on just about any skin tone. Just make sure to keep the rest of your face fairly bare with some brow gel, powder, and luminizer.       Emanuel Ungaro   While Ungaro featured a few different makeup looks in their fall show, this funky take on the cat eye stood out. It’s a perfect option for a night out when you’re sick of your typical cat eye, and all you need is some liner, and shimmery eyeshadow. Keep the rest of the look bare except for a nude lip to keep it from going too disco.     Valentino This look …

Fall in Love With These DIY Valentines Day Nails

This Valentines day try these romantic and festive Nails! Searching around on Pinterest I found three manicures I thought were the best and tried them out! Lets face it not all the DIY’s on Pinterest that claim to be easy are actually what they say. So I tried out a few and decided on these three adorable pedicures,  that are actually surprisingly simple to achieve! One Heart Mani This one is so simple but so cute! To make the heart you just add two dots and connect them with a point using a tooth pick! I used O.P.I Red and Alpine Snow. Source Pink Ombre Mani This adorable manicure is so easy!  You just need a paper plate or disposable surface to mix the nail polish. I used Naturally and Alpine Snow by O.P.I. Source   Heart to Heart Mani This one I got to say was a little more difficult, but I did it so can you! You have to have a steady hand and some patience, but definitely worth the work. Meghan’s DIY Natural Make-Up

Note: Meghan is Inexpensive Chic’s newest contributing writer! See her last post here. And read more about her here.  Making your own make up has many benefits: you know what you are putting on your face, you save money, and its good for you! I recently started using natural and organic make up products, because I didn’t like the ingredients in the makeup products I was using. Organic and natural make up can be expensive so why not make your own and save money? Here are 3 recipes I love and use on a daily basis. DIY Natural & Organic Loose Powder Foundation What you will need: Arrowroot Flour/starch Cocoa Powder Ground Cinnamon Ground Nutmeg Ground Ginger Airtight Container  *All ingredients should be Organic and premium quality* (You could also use Corn Starch (non-GMO) instead of Arrowroot flour/Starch) Directions: Determine what ingredients you need based on your skin tone. Start with 1 tsp of arrowroot powder at a time and mix ingredients until you get desired shade. Mix the powder well. Try the foundation and make sure …

The Lipstick Challenge

One of my contributing writers, Melissa, found something called “The Lipstick Challenge” on another blog, and thought it would be fun if we participated. Each day, contributing writers Brandi, Laura, and Melissa wore a different lipstick according to a theme. Monday | Cheapie Goal: Wear an inexpensive lipstick that you love.   Lipstick: Rimmel London, Bordeaux Outfit: White T-Shirt crop with Pleather circle skirt Review: It didn’t stay on well during lunch time. It also wasn’t creamy and smooth going on. -Laura           Lipstick: NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in Violet Ray NYX has a huge array of lipstick color choices, so it was by chance that I stumbled upon Violet Ray. This is an amazing purple shade that isn’t so dark that is skews goth, but is still what I would call a true purple. The Extra Creamy formula is also really great, because while it looks really dark in the tube, it is actually fairly sheer and only becomes dark with layers. -Melissa   Tuesday | Nude OR Most Moisturizing I …

My Natural Hair Journey

So, about 10 months ago I went “natural.” By this I mean I stopped getting relaxers, which are the harsh chemicals many African Americans currently (or have in the past) put in their hair to permanently straighten it. If you’ve ever seen the movie “Good Hair” with Chris Rock, you’d know that the “creamy crack” is very damaging and unhealthy for the scalp. Unfortunately, society (since slave times) tells African American women straighter hair looks better, and is more beautiful. Our naturally kinky, curly hair is often deemed “inappropriate for the work place” or “too unruly.” Today, more and more women are laying off the relaxers and are beginning to embrace what God gave them. I decided to do the same and it’s soooo freeing! Me with relaxed hair It’s been two weeks since I did THE BIG CHOP. This is when women decide to cut off all of their relaxed hair and just rock the naturally curly hair growing from their scalp, that is chemical free. In between the time I first stopped getting …

New year, new you; back to school season is the perfect excuse to experiment with new looks! If you’re wanting to dip your toes into the world of makeup these are just a few of the must-have essentials I think everyone should have in their repertoire. This is the last in a nine part series that will show you some of the very best splurges and steal to include in your makeup bag for the fall. Your Ticket To Fuller Brows: I personally believe that every girl in the world needs to have a go-to brow product to tame their tresses! If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then your eyebrows are its window frames; definitely deserving of a little upkeep to stay looking their best. To add some fullness, fill in the gaps and sparse areas of your brows with a product a few shades lighter than your natural hair color if you have dark hair, and a few shades darker than your hair if you have light hair. Make sure you set your …
