Meghan’s DIY Natural Make-Up

Note: Meghan is Inexpensive Chic’s newest contributing writer! See her last post here. And read more about her here.

Making your own make up has many benefits: you know what you are putting on your face, you save money, and its good for you! I recently started using natural and organic make up products, because I didn’t like the ingredients in the makeup products I was using. Organic and natural make up can be expensive so why not make your own and save money? Here are 3 recipes I love and use on a daily basis.

DIY Natural & Organic Loose Powder Foundation

What you will need:

  • Arrowroot Flour/starch
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Ground Nutmeg
  • Ground Ginger
  • Airtight Container
*All ingredients should be Organic and premium quality*

(You could also use Corn Starch (non-GMO) instead of Arrowroot flour/Starch)

  1. Determine what ingredients you need based on your skin tone.
  2. Start with 1 tsp of arrowroot powder at a time and mix ingredients until you get desired shade. Mix the powder well. Try the foundation and make sure it matches your skin tone.
  3. Once you are finished mixing, store in an airtight container and enjoy! (You can also make a label I recommend using Canva)

I recommend applying moisturizer or foundation before applying the loose powder so it lasts longer!

DIY Natural & Organic Powdered Blush

You Will Need:

  • Beetroot Powder (scroll down to see how to make it!)
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Ground Ginger
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Ground Nutmeg
  • Arrowroot Powder
*all ingredients should be organic and premium quality*
You could just use the Beetroot powder but other ingredients are needed if you want to adjust the color.

  1. Decide what shade looks best with your skin tone. (find your shade HERE)
  2. Start with the Beetroot powder 1 tsp at a time and slowly add desired ingredients to create the shade you want! Don’t forget to mix well!
  3. Once you have the correct shade, store in an air tight jar or container. (you can also make your own label! I recommend Canva) Enjoy!

Just the beet root powder on its own is very bright!

DIY Natural & Organic Tinted Lip Balm

What you will need:

  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp Shea butter or Cocoa butter
  • 1 tsp bees wax
  • 1/8-1/2 tsp Beet root powder (scroll down to see how to make it!)
  • 1-3 drops Essential oil (optional)
  • Small Container

Recipe makes about 1 tablespoon

*all ingredients should be organic and premium quality*

  1. Measure out ingredients and place in a heatproof bowl.
  2. Use the double boiler method to melt the ingredients and stir the mixture.
  3. Add in Beet root powder 1/8 tsp at a time until you get desired shade (mixture dries lighter than it looks melted)
  4. Stir well until powder is completely dissolved into the mixture.
  5. Slowly pour into container and wait about 30 min for the mixture to completely dry. (you can also make a label! I recommend Canva)
  6. Store in a cool place and enjoy!

How to make Beetroot Powder

You will need:

1 lb. beets (about 5 medium beets), peeled and sliced paper-thin

Spread beets on a Silpat-lined baking sheet and bake at 200° for 2 hours. Alternatively, use a dehydrator set to 150° for 3 hours. Place dried beet slices in a food processor and purée until finely ground. And done!
