Winter 2012/2013 Fashion Tips From a 4-Year-Old Movie

“I figured we made a good match. I was adept at fashion; he was adept at politics. And really, what’s the difference? They’re both about recycling shop-worn ideas and making them seem fresh and inspiring.” ~Carrie Bradshaw I watched Sex and The City (Movie #1) over the weekend.  Oh, how I wish they stopped at the first film!  With such classic fashion statements and epic relationship lines, it’s easy to gain life advice no matter what year you are watching.  I was, however, still surprised to see some outfits that struck a chord with what I plan on donning this winter season. Fashion Tip #1: Socks, socks, socks Source: Courtesy of JustJared.com Omg. I love this look for a variety of reasons.  The pop of yellow color against all neutral pieces.  The thigh high socks.  The leather gloves! I’ll definitely be incorporating some socks into my winter look.  Those of you in more frigid conditions do not fret!  Pair some thigh highs with black stockings or just turn those socks into entire leggings. The Now and Later Dress

NOW: I bought this dress recently from a local consignment shop. Initially the jewel tone is what drew me to it, but upon closer inspection, I realized the tiny squares that print the dress were velvet! It was then that I knew it would be the perfect holiday dress. I tried it on, it fit perfectly, and the rest is history. Above, you see that I’ve paired it with a navy turtleneck, black opaque tights, black heels, a snakeskin clutch, and accented silver jewelry. LATER: I’m not one to wear a dress only one way– or any article of clothing for that matter. Before I even bought this dress, I started making a mental list of how many different outfits I could create. The look above is something I would wear to school. It’s a little more casual, but still chic. I took an oversized button down shirt, and layered it atop the dress so it gave it the illusion of a skirt. For color, I cinched my waist with a teal belt, and added a few …

Ugly Christmas Sweaters

I cannot believe Christmas is on Tuesday!!! Time is running out and I haven’t even started my shopping yet (pitiful, I know). My final exams are officially over with, so I can focus my full attention on getting in the holiday spirit! If ugly Christmas sweaters don’t scream “getting in the spirit,” I don’t know what does… Why not dig out the sweater Grandma gave you last Christmas. You know the one. Or maybe you bought yourself a more fashionable version of this classic festive sweater. Either way, it’s now or never. This is that one time of year you can wear it to a place other than bed. What are some of the ways you get spirited this time of year? Happy Holidays!

Holiday Hairdos? Mission Accomplished.

I have a secret confession to make: I don’t like to style my hair the same way two days in a row.  There, I said it.  My hair-do mission has been declassified. The issue is that, perhaps unlike other women, I treat my hair like I treat my accessories.  Certainly I can’t wear my treasured gold-sequined stilettos with $10 leggings.  Similarly, I can’t rock my hair in a messy sideways ponytail with the fancy black lace dress I plan on wearing to my company’s holiday party.  It’s just not gonna happen. This is why I store a multitude of hair-do weapons in my arsenal, especially when holiday season comes around.  This year, I plan on exposing the following styles (appropriately assigned to specific battlegrounds). Battle: Holiday Happy Hour My friends never cease to find an event worth celebrating with a happy hour.  As I’m sipping on some candy cane martinis or Christmas ale, I hope to be looking friendly and cute.  So, to give in to the trend of the year, I recommend a braided …

Your Guide to The Holidays ’12 Part I: Fashion

Most of the leaves have fallen off the trees, the air outside is crisp and bitter cold, and smells of cinnamon, pine and vanilla are beginning to waft. With tomorrow being Thanksgiving, the winter holidays are right around the corner and it’s time to start getting prepared! The holidays are infamous for parties, social gatherings, family time, and celebration. Our first stop in this series– what will you wear?! Dresses are the obvious choice for a party. Above are a few of my favorite options this season. Velvet:  A burgundy velvet mini is a great choice for a couple of reasons: Velvet is in season, it’s warm, and it comes off as looking luxe. This particular dress is from Dorothy Perkins for only $29! LBD: You could pull out the same boring, little black dress you wore last year, and the same one you wear for any major occasion– or, try one that’s a little more edgy. The cut of the dress above is so unique, yet still elegant. You can find it at Asos now on sale …
