For the Record

Hey guys, I am back from Morocco! Stay tuned for a few recap blog posts coming very soon. In the meantime here’s an editorial #ootd style post. I took a stroll in OTR (Over-the-Rhine) in Cincinnati, and stopped in this record store because I thought it’d make a cool background. How fun is this top? I love finding gems like this… a twist on a basic. I decided to pair it with this chunky cocoon cardigan (incredibly cozy) both are from a boutique in OTR called Shop Libby. Style Star of the Week: Azra Syakirah

Azra Syakirah, 21 Singapore Student, Menswear Fashion Designer What do you think about when you get dressed in the morning? Because I live in a tropical country, my first thought would probably be, “Is it going to be extremely sunny today? If not, I could dress up a bit more (with layers).” Comfort has always been important to me, but I try my best to not compromise my own style beliefs while at it. Everyday is a new exciting challenge for me. What item of clothing or accessory makes you feel most like yourself and why? It’s not a specific thing, per say, but the attitude I have when I wear an outfit. Sometimes when I throw a few pieces together, I just don’t feel like I’m being true to myself and I would go about the day feeling out of place. It’s because of that mentality I have at the beginning that causes lack of confidence in myself, I suppose. What is your dream job? I think most (if not every) fashion design student’s dream is …

On Falling Short + Feeling Not Quite Good Enough

Have you ever set a goal for yourself, worked extremely hard towards it, were super confident you were going to achieve it, and still fell short? I am sure many of you have, as that’s life… but I am beginning to learn and accept that I can’t always get what I want, even if I do everything within reason to be successful in my endeavor. At the beginning of spring semester, fresh off my 4-month stay in New York City, I was ready to get back into the school groove and set a semester goal for myself to achieve another 4.0 G.P.A. Looking at my new schedule, with all new professors, I took a guess at which may be my most difficult classes. Although I am in school for fashion design, I don’t enjoy constructing fabric into clothing. So, “Draping 1” felt like it could pose as a problem. Turns out we barely sewed in that class, mostly just learned how to start the construction process on a dress form first, instead of starting with a …

Style Star of the Week: Tina Roe

Name: Tina Roe Age: 27 Born & Raised in The Bronx, Currently living in Bedstuy, Brooklyn, NY. Occupation: Apparel Inventory Planner What do you think about when you get dressed in the morning?  Not much, really. Unfortunately, I don’t give myself enough time in the morning to think about what I am going to wear. When I’m getting dressed for work, I simply grab 3 neutral peices from the  closet and go. I don’t concern myself with silhouettes, textures, or whether I am wearing a dress with pants.  I am comfortable wearing any combination of clothing thats monochromatic, tonal, or dual-toned.  The reason that this works is because I only buy clothes that I absolutely love and I keep the color palette simple. I do think about my footwear a little; when I think my outfit is too casual, I wear heels. When I think my outfit is too formal or dressy, I will wear flats/sneakers that pop a little. I am not sure if my co-workers like my style…I’m sure it’s a little weird to them…but it’s always …

This is The Accessory Your Laptop Is Missing

I recently got the newest MacBook Pro with the Touchbar and I’ve been trying to find a great laptop sleeve to protect it. My previous computer was the 2011, 17-inch MacBook Pro and it decided to quit on me while I was living in New York (leaving me without a computer for a month, might I add). Anywho, I promised myself I’d take great care of this computer. I use my dust cloth everyday to wipe away smears on the screen, I don’t eat around it, and I didn’t just want to throw it in my backpack like I had done with the last laptop. With all of this special care, I needed a sleeve that was of high quality, functional, but also aesthetically pleasing. Here’s what I found… The sleeve is from the e-commerce site, Mujjo which is based in the Netherlands. They combine full grain vegetable-tanned leather and felt, offering padding comfort for my Macbook. The leather fold-over closure – with one snap button on the right – provides a simple closure and …

Come and Stay Awhile

Ugh. I am so ready for spring! This weather has been teasing us a little bit with temps in the 60’s, 70’s, near 80’s. Craaaaaazy for this time of year, but I can’t lie, it feels good. In the same week we have that warm weather, rain, thunderstorms, and snow. 😒 Enough with the back and forth, I want the real thing. This outfit is somewhat appropriate for this influx we’ve been having. I’ve still got my winter boots on, and my legs are covered (these leggings have a fleece lining, they’re super cozy), but I paired this kimono style denim jacket with a caged bralette for a spicy look. Whaddya think? The bra, jacket, and leggings are from SHOP LIBBY boutique which is in downtown Cincinnati. They have a website, but for more recent inventory, you’ll have to stop in store. My earrings and bracelet are from a new online jewelry store I’ve recently discovered called 7 Charming Sisters. You can take a style quiz to find jewelry that matches your personality best. I’m especially …

Style Star of the Week: Trévon James

Name: TJ but more commonly known as Trévon James ( pronounced Tray-vahn Jayms) Age: 31 Where Are You From: NYC born and raised (woop woop)! Occupation: Graphic Designer / Photographer What do you think about when you get dressed in the morning?
I think about the mood I’m in or I want to be in. My mother taught me that you never dress how you feel. If you’re sick, depressed, angry, lazy, whatever, never dress that way. You never know what opportunity or experience awaits you. So, do I dress up everyday? No, but I definitely think about the what ifs. What item of clothing or accessory makes you feel most like yourself and why?
I have to say anything leather. A leather jacket, a leather bag, a leather bracelet. I feel like it elevates any style. There’s been times I’ve worn just a basic shirt and some jeans and threw on my leather jacket and all of sudden I felt confident, I felt strong, and stylish. What is your dream job? My dream job would …
