The School Supplies You’ll Actually Want to Buy

While not all of us look forward to the beginning of classes, I don’t think any of us look forward to being forced to buy expensive textbooks and supplies that we don’t even want. With that being said, check out some of my favorite supply picks to brighten up your school week and up your classroom game. SCENTED HIGHLIGHTERS ARE CHILDHOOD. If my all caps didn’t convince you, I think you just need to take another look at these fruit scented highlighters. There is no boring lecture that these couldn’t instantly fix. And just look at all those colors, so many options. NPW Mini Scented Highlighter Pack, $10.00, ASOS I like to always carry around a small journal for any ideas or things I will inevitably think of at inconvenient times. Finally right down all of your genius revelations from the grocery store and the train! Also, gotta say I’m really loving the cover. This Is the Backpack You Need For Back-to-School

I have an ancient Mac computer, but what’s nice about it, is it’s a 17 inch which is a rare find these days. While I love the large screen for watching netflix, and creating in adobe suite, there are some challenges that come with the good life. One of the most prevalent ones being, it doesn’t fit properly in any of my bags. I have an aztec backpack that I bought from Pacsun a few seasons ago that is marketed for a 15 inch laptop. But, with a little bit of wiggling, I could fit mine in the designated slot. I just had to pull the top over so that there wasn’t any space between my laptop and the opening of the bag. Overtime, because of this forceful fit, the bag developed two holes in the top corners right where the corners of my laptop would be. When I put my computer in my shoulder bag, it sticks out, etc. Both are not ideal, specially if it rains. So, I’ve really been in the market …

New Apartment Tour + HUGE Redbubble Giveaway for BTS

I’ve mentioned it in a few other blog posts, and now I am finally ready to debut… my new apartment! I live about a 3 minute walk from campus with my roommate Lauren. Together we decorated the living room, and then I’ll show you my bedroom. One of my favorite sites for anything artsy, Redbubble.com, played a significant role in our decor!Keep reading until the end, and you’ll have a chance to win a HUGE basket of back-to-school goodies from them. Lauren and I wanted to go for a boho vibe in the living room. While I like a more sterile and modern aesthetic with lots of white, Lauren loves color and a more homey feel. We tried our best to mix both aesthetics with splashes of bold color here and there. The art collage is our favorite part. The square mirrors are from IKEA, the three black framed pieces are from Redbubble (C’est la Vie, Elephants, Good Vibes), and the top and bottom paintings were made by myself and Lauren respectively. Lauren is still working …

College Dorm Room Storage Solutions + GIVEAWAY

As of today I am officially moved into my new apartment and fully unpacked. My room is organized and decorated, but it took some time to get there. As I was trying to figure out where everything should go, I realized I have a lot of stuff. If you’re in the middle of moving into a new place for the school year, you’ll probably be able to relate. It’s frustrating to not have storage space for those extra items that just don’t seem to fit anywhere. There’s a few solutions to this problem, but what I’ve found really helpful is my tote bag from Thirty One Gifts. The bag is very spacious, super chic, and because it’s made out of fabric and not hard plastic, it’s easy to squeeze into spaces if need be. Keep reading to find out how you can win your very own customized tote from Thirty One Gifts.  This bag can be used for more than just in your room. Leave it in your car to bring in groceries (the bag …

Our New School Year Resolutions

School is right around the corner, (I move in my new apartment this week! Classes begin the following week) and here at Inexpensive Chic, we’re reflecting at last year and thinking about what we want to accomplish this time around. Have you thought about your new school year resolutions? Share them with us below! Niyah Remain on the Dean’s list. Don’t spread yourself too thin. Make sure I have time for myself, instead of jumping from balancing work, classes, projects, meetings, etc. Laura Spend more time improving and perfecting my portfolio. Utilize my time more wisely. When I have spare time see if I can use it to work on a project instead of doing nothing. Tanisha Prioritize balancing my social life along with my academics. I want to be able to spend more time studying efficiently and becoming more productive, and less of a procrastinator. Start doing yoga everyday! I like working out, but LOVE yoga. Unfortunately, I don’t make it important enough in my life to set aside time to do it on a regular …

Smart Saving During the School Year

Saving during the school year can be really tricky, especially if it’s your first time out on your own and you haven’t done this before. While college is super fun, it’s also super expensive. Whether you’re blowing your cash on textbooks, art supplies (like me), or just having fun, money always seems to run out when you need it the most. Here’s a few tips I wish I had known before I went off to school: Take good care of your possessions. It’s easy to get careless about things like this, but before you know it you are four hundred dollars poorer for laptop repairs (this may or may not have happened to me). But seriously, if you are the one that’s going to have to replace your expensive electronics, make sure you are extra careful with them! Eating out on campus with friends can be really fun, and really tempting in the middle of the school year when the cafeteria food is suddenly unappealing. While you don’t have to totally cut yourself off from …

14 Natural Ways to Relieve Stress

The school year is approaching rather quickly and with that being said, an entire year of stress is also approaching. Let’s face it, everyone deals with stress and everyone deals with it differently. Whether it be stress from balancing school work with a social life and a job, saving up for college, or just trying to get through the year with all good grades, you have to keep in mind that it is truly important to make sure your mental and physical health comes first. Dealing with stress with substances (alcohol, drugs, excessive partying, cigarettes, one night stands, etc.) as a form of escapism is not healthy at all and in some cases, it can be harmful.   From experience, I’ve dealt with major breakdowns, hospital visits, and long, countless therapy and counseling sessions due to stress and anxiety, and they’re not fun–not at all. I’ve witnessed my friends stress out over AP classes and exams (myself included… I hated AP U.S. History, such a snooze and it’ll never happen ever again) too, and I’ve come …

Start Your Day Right with Smoothies

While we’ve all heard that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” that doesn’t always work out. When you have an 8 AM class, sleep might win out over eating before class. Smoothies can be a great way to get energizing nutrients on the go. Smoothie ingredients can be pre-cut and combined the night before, and quickly blended in the morning. If you know you’ll be having a crazy week, you can even freeze smoothies for the whole week on Sunday. The Tropical Morning This smoothie is a yummy option with  a lot of vitamin-k from the collard greens. 10 oz. pineapple juice 1 handfull collard greens 1/2 avocado 1 handful of blueberries 2 scoops of acai puree Mango Green Tea This smoothie is low in fat and high in vitamin C, and easy to make in the morning with few ingredients. 1 cup frozen, cubed mango 1 cup chilled, brewed green tea 1/2 cup low-fat or nonfat plain yogurt 2 tbsp vanilla protein powder 1 to 2 tsp honey Creamy Watermelon Smoothie …
