Logo Design Contest

Logo Design Contest by niyah on polyvore.com Calling All Artists and Illustrators! I am looking for someone to do a custom illustration to be apart of a new logo I am doing for my blog, http://inexpensivechic.com/. Inexpensive Chic is a fashion blog I started last summer that shows young women how to “look like a million bucks without spending a million bucks.” It’s been about 11 months now since I’ve started this blog, and it has surpassed my expectations with how well received it has been. The blog has readers not only in the U.S. but all over the world; and it is continuing to grow everyday. I want to take it to the next level–and that’s where you come in! My goal is to create a more visually appealing logo/header/banner for Inexpensive Chic. I would love to have a fashion illustration along the lines of the niche of the blog: Dress For Less Shopping One example of this would be a fashionable looking girl holding shopping bags that say “SALE” on them. Although, feel …

7 Days of Summer Fashion

Don’t know what to wear? It’s ok, we all ask ourselves that question at some point! We often have a closet full of clothes, but get stylist’s block (I just made that up! Get it, like writer’s block? Haha). Whenever I have that problem, I turn to fashion magazines, my collages, Pinterest, etc. for inspiration. Below are some ideas for how to reinvent pieces most of you will already have in your summer wardrobe. Let this post (and others on Inexpensive Chic) be your source for summer outfit inspiration!  Sunday Necklace/Hautelook  Vest/H&M  Romper/Forever21  Sandals/Asos  Sunglasses/H&M Sundays are your day to relax, your outfit should reflect that. By throwing on a romper you won’t even have to think much about the rest of your outfit. For the most basic way to wear a romper, just add cute sandals. If you want to dress it up a bit more, try a statement necklace and a denim vest as well. Your Eyebrows Need Some Love Too!

Have you ever stared into the mirror only to discover something you usually never notice? Those two little strips of hair directly above your eyes? Yup, eyebrows. We’ve all got them, but in the rush of our busy lives, eyebrows are easy to neglect and forget. Although eyebrows seem like they don’t do much, they actually frame your entire face. A pair of tidy, strong brows can change your entire look. If your brows have never been shaped before, it would probably be a good idea to get them waxed or threaded at a salon. If you’re more daring, you can buy an eyebrow stencil kit, and use tweezers to clean up your brows. This stencil kit from e.l.f. has four basic looks to choose from. Experimenting with different eyebrow shapes can help you decide what looks best on your face. Tip: A thicker, fuller, brow shape will make you look fresh and energetic. Avoid over plucked, or extremely thin shapes as these can make you look harsh. After you’ve got the perfect shape, its …

Summer’s Most Popular Nail Polish Shades According to the University of Oxford

I don’t know about you but I’ve always been a huge fan of nail polishes and I can’t stop drooling over each and every color I lay my eyes on, however not all colors are appropriate for summer. Summer’s most popular shades seem to be divided into two color categories:  orange/fuchsia hues and blue/green hues. According to research made by the University of Oxford (yes they actually care about nail polishes!) the most popular red/fuchsia hues are the ones shown here: mulberry pink, salmon and tangerine orange. Also according to the University of Oxford each of these colors represents a feeling. Mulberry Pink= Happiness Salmon= Romance Tangerine= Energy.   Turquoise, blue-green and mint were picked by 1,900 women and girls of 20 to 30 years old with mint getting the first place by 987 votes. Each of these colors also represents a feeling: Mint= Calm Turquoise= Energy Blue-Green= Dreamy Who knew that our nail polish shades can represent a particular feeling? But what’s the shade of nail polish the majority of the women picked?? Red? Pink? Think …

Easy, Breezy

Dress | H&M  Belt | Forever21  Necklace | Etsy  Canvas Shoes | Toms Ring | Charlotte Russe Last weekend our family friends from Texas came to visit us! Their two kids, Chloe (9) and Zipporah (7) are adorable, and I consider them my little sisters. I asked Chloe if she wanted to take some pictures of me for my blog, and she quickly agreed… It was her first time using a professional camera, but I knew I could trust her! I gave her a basic tutorial and we were on our way. It was her suggestion that I use the bike as a prop which I thought was such a creative idea. The pictures turned out better than I expected; I bet you never would’ve guessed they were taken by a nine-year-old 😉 What do you think of these shots?

The Best Swimsuits for Your Shape

It can be challenging shopping for the perfect swimsuit. With so many styles, its hard to stay on trend and flatter your figure at the same time. It’s so tempting sometimes just to stick to a classic black suit, but this summer there are so many great printed pieces and vibrant styles that just can’t be missed! Check out my guide for the swimwear that’ll look amazing on your shape: The Triangle Bikini Bikini- H&M, $12.80 /  Bikini- Topshop, $36 / Bikini- H&M, $26 The classic triangle bikini flatters most shapes. Particularly for you gorgeous small-chested girls, this style can work wonders for adding definition! This is because the plunge shape gives the illusion of cleavage, and hides the lack of volume at the top. For you stunning girls with a full chest, this style might not suit as there’s less support. If you’re bottom heavy, choose a tie-side style like this vibrant yellow H&M bikini so you can adjust the size and prevent the straps from digging in. The Bandeau Bikini Bikini- H&M, $26 …

Facetasm A/W 2012-2013

Street style with a slight twist of colors and patterns was Hiromichi Ochiai’s approach for his label Facetasm  for A/W 2012-2013 collection. The show took place at Tokyo Fashion Week and was entitled “Because I Was Certain That It Must Be Something Ahead of This, I Made It”, featuring a captivating selection of outerwears, knits, dresses and accessories that unmistakably gave the audience a visionary moment during the show. Ochiai was still with his essentials: impeccable tailoring, edgy aesthetic, unconventional cutting, texture, pattern and material mishmash–from the wild animal print to the sophisticated scottish plaid–the leopard peacoat, the wool oversized biker vest and the burgundy robe, evidence that outerwear was still his main vocabulary. What felt new this season was the vivid color palette, bold pattern and the androgynous silhouette compared to the Spring collection. The biker jackets were the collection’s headliner–there was a delicate and subtle touch in the salmon asymmetrical sleeved biker jacket, same with the gray cape-biker cotton blend jacket with little pocket on the front–reminds me of Gucci cape meets Perfecto …

Print Midi Dress

Printed Dress | DKNYC  Braided Belt | Charlotte Russe  Heels | Nine West I found this gem in my mother’s closet! It’s such a beautiful dress and is quite the statement piece. Midi dresses are in between a maxi and mini length hemline– the perfect balance, I think. I kept my accessories minimal so that the focus could be on the dress. What do you think? Do you love this dress as much as I do?
