T.G.I.F.

Happy Friday! I am so glad it is the weekend, you have no idea… I am celebrating my 16th  birthday this weekend with a few friends. Hopefully I’ll post pictures later. My actual birthday is October 3. Today I transformed my tunic/dress into a top. I tucked that into jean shorts, and layered patterned tights under those. For some color I threw on a bunch of random, colorful rings. I think the overall look ended up being a little electic, but also with classic elements.

Bronzer or Blush?

~vs~ When you think of color in your cheeks, what is the first word or image that pops up in your mind? Is it pink circles like in those old cartoons? Is it bright red lines on the edges of some over-done clown looking woman’s cheeks? Or is it a simpler word: bronzer? blush? When it comes to choosing bronzer or blush, there are more possible outcomes for each decision than most people realize. Each is a better fit for different situations, and each a greater choice for different people. Here are some similarities, differences, and uses for both bronzer and blush–to help you make a more educated decision! Both:  Bronzer and blush each come in two different forms: a powder and a liquid cream. This is a personal decision to make. Each are applied on top of foundation, usually the last thing. Apply more than necessary because it is the first thing to wear off during your day. Apply both following the lines of your cheekbones. Bronzer Only Uses: Bronzer gives your skin a …

What’s the Distinction Between Fashion and Style?

I think there’s a fine line between fashion and style, making it confusing for people who don’t know the difference. Of course, as with anything, there are many interpretations of these two definitions. Just to give you a standard idea of what these definitions are, I looked them up in the OED. Style, n. 1. A distinctive appearance, typically determined by the principles according to which something is designed 2. A manner of doing something  Fashion, n. 1. A popular trend, especially in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior 2. A manner of doing something  The way I like to distinguish between the two comes from Coco Chanel… “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”  “Fashion fades, only style remains the same. “ I believe fashion comes first. Fashion is what you see on the runway, in the stores and magazines. Fashion is what influences your style. Style is …

Bottega Veneta Spring 2012

First came New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week and now Milan. I lot of the blogs I am following are posting looks from these runway shows several times a day- representing a lot of designers. Although I’ve been keeping up with a lot of the looks, I havent been able to post quite as many as I would like here on the blog. So, if you want to see more shows, please visit Style.com. It’s very easy to find what you’re looking for on that site. Enjoy browsing… I love that each piece conveys something a little unexpected. At first glance I don’t find myself identifying with what the model is wearing. In other words, I can’t imagine myself wearing something like that. But at second glance, I see that the color, or the fabric or the cut is something special, something that’s a little more- me. I think that’s a good thing… there’s something for everyone in each piece.                             …

What to Wear if You’re Pear-shaped

Tonia emailed me yesterday with this question: “I’m a freshman and don’t know much about clothes and how to dress my body. I do know im a pear shape but i never know what to get when I go shopping and I don’t want to spend too much when I do go shopping. Can you help me?” Dear Tonia (and the rest of you who share the same body-type as Tonia), Since you’re pair shaped your main goal is created the illusion of an elongated body. You can do this by wearing dark or solid, slimming colors on bottom. As a pear, it’s about drawing the eye away from your bottom/hips and more towards the top. Bright colored/printed tops and paying attention to details at the neck is a good way to do this. Some other tips for you: Stay away from capri or tapered pants. Flares are great for your body type! Tunics and dresses can help you appear to be taller Jackets (especially ones with a detailed neckline or structured shoulder) are great! …

From the Runway to Your Home: Sheer Perfection

If you’ve been reading any of my latest posts (‘outfit’, ‘trend’ or ‘my current obsessions’) you know I am a huge fan of sheer. It’s usually best if it’s applied in an unexpected way. For example, a sheer neckline in a shirt or a dress. Or an oversized, printed sheer top. There’s something about it that screams “elegance” and “romance.” Head on over to my Mom’s blog (she’s an interior designer) to see ways to incoporate sheer into your home! Sheer is everywhere this season! Here are a few of the pieces I’m loving…

Playing With Proportion

I got to combine my two favorite Fall must-haves today: An oversized sheer top and a pleated “leather” mini skirt. Unfortunately it took me about 10 different outfits to come to this one (I was trying to figure out what would work with the scarf)… but in the end it was worth it. As for my hair, I love doing it like this every now and then… and it’s so simple to achieve! All you have to do is cornrow your hair while it’s wet and let it dry over night. Once you wake up, take the braids out, add some sheen and you’re good to go! Top: TjMaxx    Skirt: Zara   Scarf: Borrowed From My Mama    Boots: Nine West
