The annual Met Gala is often referred to as fashion’s Oscars, and it never fails to be the most creative red carpet of the year. This year’s theme, Manus x Machina explores “how fashion designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear.” Celebs interpreted this in a lot of different ways, with futuristic metallics and beading being the most popular choice. Check out my favorite looks of the night, below, and let me know which one you think is the best of the gala.
I am obsessed with the over-the-top embellishment on this dress that Poppy somehow manages to make look effortless. This looks proves that maybe more really is more.
This look is so different and refreshing for Lorde, and I love it! The frothy rainbow skirt of this amazing gown is balanced out so well with the minimal beauty look.
Louis Vuitton was everywhere on this carpet, but I thought Jennifer wore it best. Her take on the motorcycle boot looks totally fresh with this colorful midi dress and matchy-matchy lip.
Kate is no stranger to skintight Versace and she rocks it every time. The detailed cutouts and draped pattern-piece-esque details are gorgeous!
Lily’s draped grecian gown was made futuristic by the subtle line of makeup drawn down from her face. I appreciate her nod to the theme of the show, while still staying true to her personal style.
At first glance, this train almost looks like peacock feathers. But with a closer look you can see that this train is actually made up of many colored shapes blended with feathers to give it an almost digital look.
The detailed lacework on these dresses is beautiful, and all together they look amazing. A+ on coordinating outfits! Also, how great are those diamond hair wreaths?!
These purples look great on Emma and definitely popped in a sea of silver and black. Her minimal accessorizing really puts focus on the detailed boho beadwork. This look could also be a great inspiration point for prom season.
Nicole can do no wrong. In Alexander McQueen she honestly looks like a magical fairy/greek goddess/alien/painting come to life, what more can I say?
Solange was definitely the wild card of the night. However, she was one of my favorites for the great color choice alone. I also think that the swirling pleats are fascinating and one of the most avant-garde looks of the night. Any thoughts on the yellow stirrup thigh-highs?
While Lily is definitely a newcomer to the fashion scene, she’s been killing it. She makes this Chanel dress look sooooo chic, where can I get one?
Zendaya, is that you? This new bowl cut is completely new for her, and I’m loving it. While she’s almost unrecognizable, this vintage cut definitely set her apart from the pack, and maybe others will follow her lead? Her skintight bronze gown is also gorgeous, but for me, her hair really took center stage.
This vintage shape paired with such modern and bright embroideries along with a pink eye look are a match made in heaven. Loving her unique interpretation of the night’s theme.
Annnndd my favorite look of the night is, Emma Watson! Aside from looking completely and utterly chic in a gown layered over pants, she also made a statement about sustainability with her look! She collaborated with Calvin Klein to create this outfit that is made of repurposed materials, as well as organic cotton, organic silk, and fabric made of used plastic bottles. We can always count on Emma to use her platform for good, while also being a style goddess, of course.
