2016 Coachella Fashion Trends

Even though the increasingly popular Coachella music festival that takes place every April in Indio, California has sadly been over for almost two full weeks now, no one can seem to stop buzzing about it. The three day indie music festival brought us memorable performances, tons of celebrities, and of course some major fashion trendsetting.

From frequent celebrity Coachella-goers such as Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid, Hailey Baldwin, and Chanel Iman to social media kings and queens, Steven Kelley, Pia Mia, and Lohanthony (Anthony Quintel), the fashion was exciting and fresh, introducing us to some of the spring/summer trends we’ll most likely add to our closets.

Here are seven Coachella trends that you might have seen by most people on Instagram this year:

Chokers. They’re like the new flower crowns, yeah? Well, Taylor Swift made this prediction the Saturday before the festival started, and being the prophet she is, she was none other than right. Whether it be made out of a single piece of fabric, metal and beads, lace, or the classic black , leather band, chokers were seen all around.

Levi’s 501 Jeans. Everyone needs a pair of those perfectly vintage jeans, and these are a no brainer when it comes to it. Lightly washed, loosely fit, and a little worn out, these Levi’s are a perfect wear for the entire day. For more of a 70s look, pair it with with a camel suede jacket or for more of a 90s edge, style it with a worn out leather jacket and a white tee. Either way, these are a Coachella essential because of how comfortable and versatile they are.

Body Chains/Jewelry. Because honestly, where else are you going to where them other than the beach? Tons of girls and guys were seen this year wearing all sorts of body jewelry and sporting body chains. It’s a way to take your outfit to a whole other level. A take away from this trend would be keeping it simple back at home by wearing a hand chain attached to a ring or an ear chain, but if you really love being risky with your jewelry, make a statement by wearing an intricate, long necklace that wraps around your neck a few times and then falls.

One-Piece Swimsuits and Body Suits. Honestly, one of the best Coachella fashion trends because they are sexy and can worn by itself or with anything really. It can seem intimidating because of the sex appeal you can get from it, but don’t shy away from pairing it with a cute pair of jeans or a bomber jacket. This item is great for layering, just let your mind go wild and have fun with it.

Long Sheer Layers.  The best dressed this go around stayed away from the typical festival trends like crochet and fringe, and instead incorporated long, sheer, and mesh layers. Whether it be a dress, skirt, two piece sets over cool vintage undergarments, this was by far one of the most popular theme. It was a way to make a statement and show some skin. this year pop stayed away from stale festival trends like fringe, flower crowns and crochet.

Crop tops. Yes, this may seem like a given for your typical Coachella girl, but for a guy? This year, the guys seemed to step up their game a bit by wearing cropped sweatshirts and vintage tops paired with loose fit jeans or shorts. It was a bold and daring move that I strangely like and hope to see more guys try in the future.

Circle Sunglasses. An essential if anyone wants to survive in the blazing sun. It’s a go-to frame for this indie festival, giving almost any and every outfit a stylish lift.
