Headbands Abound at Couture Fashion Week

Couture Fashion Week is a prime example of fashion as art. Exquisitely detailed and luxurious pieces are precisely sent down the runway to the awe of the few allowed to witness the shows. While only 1% of people are able to take part in the full couture experience, we can certainly take inspiration from the beautiful ideas presented there. One of the foremost accessory trends was the headband, especially in metallics. Below I have reviewed and highlighted four of the shows that did headbands best, and all differently. You can find accessible under $25 options below to bring these couture visions into your life.

Valentino Couture

My favorite designers did it again for their couture show this season. The collection perfectly exemplified luxury, elegance, and opulence. The show took place in Rome, which seemed to very well portray their inspiration, each girl looked like she stepped out of an ancient royal portrait. Influences from Imperial, Byzantine, and Medieval Rome can be seen in many aspects of the looks, but especially in the fabrics. Their use of accessories and sheer layers are what really modernized the collection. Almost every look was accompanied by a gold headband. While some were worn traditionally on top of the head, many were expertly placed at the hairline for a really beautiful effect.

Zuhair Murad Couture

This season, Zuhair Murad created a galaxy of their own. While somewhat literal, each garment twinkled and shined with star adornments slyly included. Voluminous and dramatic shapes lended itself to making each girl look like a celestial princess. Silver star adorned headbands added novelty and interest to many of the outfits.

Elie Saab Couture

Elie Saab also decided to take inspiration from the Byzantine era. Voluminous and flowing layers with shimmering details add to the overall princess-like qualities. I found the whole collection to be very reminiscent of the costuming on the Mary Queen of Scots inspired show, Reign. The gold tiara-toppers on each model really completed each of the looks, while their sleekness kept them from going costume.

Versace Atelier Couture

Versace’s Couture show this season was extremely reminiscent of the seventies. Each model that walked out was a new twist on a femme fatale hippie. So while it was filled with the sex appeal always very apparent in Versace, the mystic element given by the fabrics and florals, not to mention the location, gave it a fresh twist. The floral headbands worn by each model added to their mystique, and can easily be added to any outfit outside of the couture world.

This isn’t your Coachella flower crown. Look for floral headbands in luxe fabrics in rich colors. Bright or pastel colors look great on darker skin tones, while a black or darker hued band looks great on lighter skin.
