The run up to the festive season is fraught with choosing Christmas presents for friends and family, sending cards and wrapping. So time and budgets are tight. But, you can find outfits to take you through the holidays, even if your purse is feeling a bit light. Katie from delightso.me shares her favourite outfits to take you through the festive season.
The office party
Dressing for the office party can be tricky. It’s your chance to show your colleagues a sense of style you might not be able to exhibit in the office. But, you still want to give off an air of professionalism, rather than all-out sex appeal – unless, of course, you’re hoping to impress the cute guy from accounts.
There’s no need to go for a LBD like everyone else though. Leather has been all over the catwalks for the A/W season and this leather-look skirt gives the same look for a fraction of the price. You could team it with a simple cami top, then add the wow factor with a chunky necklace, like this one from Missguided. If it’s chilly, you can sling a cosy shrug on top. We love this lacy insert cardigan from La Redoute, which manages to be cute and sexy at the same time, with its lace detail, which gives a glimpse of your collar-bone, shoulders and back.
When Santa’s left all those presents under the tree, you don’t want to delay opening them by getting changed before you head downstairs. So, make sure you go to bed in a stylish onesie, then you’re already ready. At the All-in-One company, you can design your own onesie, choosing size, material, colour, and whether you want ears on your hood or not.
Kate Middleton may have famously said she needed to change five times on Christmas Day when she spent her first holiday season with her royal in-laws. But we think just one change, out of that onesie and into something comfortable enough for lunch with the family, but beautiful enough for Christmas, should do it. It’s the perfect occasion to wear a demure party dress that will impress your mom. We love this one which has a hint of tea dress about it, while being bang on trend with its dark winter florals. The velvet colour is sweet yet edgy. You could toughen it up with some biker boots, or wear with opaques and a pair of brogues.
The Holiday Sales
As Christmas has been all about giving, the reductions on offer in all the stores give you a chance for a little getting. But, for a full day’s shopping, you’ll want an outfit that’s stylish comfy, and easy to change in and out of to make sure your potential purchases fit. This vintage tartan dress ticks the checked trend for this winter. I’d team it with a snuggly knit, woolly hat, some flat studded boots – to make sure my feet didn’t get sore pounding the high street – and a crossbody bag, to keep my money safe while browsing the sale rails.
While Christmas is all about cosy get togethers with your family, New Year is the time for blow-out parties with your friends – the time to impress with the sparkliest, spangliest outfit you can find. This dress from Pink Boutique features bead detailing and sequin embellishment. Just team with a pair of skyscraper heels and you’re good to go.
So, there you have it, our outfit ideas to take you through the whole season. Happy holidays!
